WHAT CAN WE EXPECT THIS HURRICANE SEASON?
Are you prepared?
hurricane preparations
The 2024 Hurricane season is upon us, starting June 1st. NOAA National Weather Service forecasters at the Climate Prediction Center predict above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and NOAA predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season.
One of the great things about a home standby generator is that it exercises all by itself, that’s discipline! When the generator cranks and runs, it ensures that the internal parts of the engine are lubricated, condensation evaporates out of the oil, and the fuel components are kept in working order. In addition, the onboard controller monitors the functions of the machine, checking oil pressure, engine speed, generator voltage output, battery charge output, temperatures, etc. For the generator owner, this means peace of mind; when storms threaten, there is very little to do.
What does this mean for you as an owner?
If a long term power outage is anticipated, an owner should
- Make certain the engine oil level is up to the full mark, but not above
- Propane Generator owners should have their fuel tanks checked for sufficient fuel level
- Stay informed about local outages
Beyond that, owners should make certain to have sufficient food and beverage supplies on hand to accommodate the wave of jealous neighbors likely to come visit during an extended power outage!
“While seasonal forecasts may vary from year to year – some high, some low – it only takes one storm to significantly disrupt your life.”
-FEMA Deputy Administrator Joseph Nimmich.
